To Make Tree Peonies Grow Well, Watering Is Subject
1.Watering timing
Watering thoroughly after autumn:
At the end of autumn, before the soil is about to freeze, watering the ground planted peonies once to make them permeable is called "winter irrigation". This is beneficial for the development of new roots in peony flowers and the differentiation of spring flower buds.
Observing soil:
During the dry winter season, if the soil surface is dry, appropriate watering can be done. However, it is important to avoid excessive moisture or water accumulation to prevent root rot.
2.Water temperature and quality
Appropriate water temperature:
When watering, the water temperature should be consistent with the soil temperature and environmental temperature, and avoid using too cold or too hot water to avoid stimulating the roots of peonies or causing freezing. It is recommended to water at noon and place the collected water near the peony for a period of time to make its temperature similar to the soil temperature.
Water quality requirements:
Use clean and pollution-free water for irrigation, and avoid using wastewater or sewage containing chemicals.
3.Precautions
Reduce frequency:
In winter, peonies enter a dormant or semi dormant period, which reduces their water demand. Therefore, watering frequency and amount should be reduced.
Cold prevention and warmth preservation:
While watering, attention should be paid to covering the roots of peonies with a layer of insulation materials such as straw, leaves, or plastic film to increase soil temperature and reduce frost damage. But the covering should be moderate and not too thick to avoid affecting the breathing of peonies.
Avoid waterlogging:
After watering, check the soil moisture in a timely manner to ensure that there is no waterlogging. If there is accumulated water, it should be promptly drained to avoid root rot.
