Tree peony (or Paeonia suffruticosa) is a cold resistant deciduous shrub that produces hundreds of huge exotic flowers every spring. Don't confuse them with perennial herbaceous peonies, which die back to the ground every year.Tree peony has a long lifespan and spectacular scenery, requiring little maintenance except for withering. However, if your mature shrubs have exceeded their space or become excessively long and have low productivity, the following are the correct methods for pruning them.
Tree peony pruning is usually done in spring, specifically in early spring when the plants have just finished dormancy and are ready to start growing. At this point, any growth issues that occur during the dormant period on the plant, such as yellowing or drying flower branches, should be pruned to allow it to grow better in spring.
Use the following simple techniques to keep your mature peonies in their optimal state:
1.Remove all dead trees to restore healthy buds.
2.To improve the shape or reduce the size of peonies, please cut some stems back onto new shoots at the soil level or within 15 centimeters from the ground.
3.To stimulate the plant to grow more densely, please cut off one-third of the elongated stem.
4.By pulling one or two old stems to the ground, old and neglected plants can be revitalized. Continue for several years to minimize the impact.
We hope these techniques can keep your peony in good condition so that it can continue to bring you spectacular spring displays for many years to come.
